ALGAE AND TECHNOLOGY FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

Innovation

Thanks to the research carried out over the last few years, BAEA bases its activity on:

 

- Patented lighting technology for optimum cultivation at different scales.

 

 - The decarbonisation through the production of microalgae, preferably originating in the Basque Country, and the extraction of their products of interest.

Sustainability

BAEA's activity revolves around microalgae: microscopic organisms capable of photosynthesis (microscopic plants). Microalgae generate most of the O2 we breathe from CO2. What its cultivation helps combat climate change and improve air quality. In addition, BAEA uses patented LED lighting systems for its production, to reduce its energy consumption. 

SDG 2030

BAEA's activity is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) approved by the UN within the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Specifically with the following objectives: (1) Zero Hunger, (2) Health and Wellbeing, (3) Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, (4) Responsible Production and Consumption, (5) Climate Action and (6) Life Underwater.

Commitment to Euskadi

Thanks to the knowledge obtained during the experimentation and characterization of the BMCC strains, BAEA's priority is to exploit new strains isolated in the Basque Country, with which this can bring monetary and non-monetary benefits to the territory and its society in the medium and long term. as guaranteed by the Nagoya Protocol since 2014.

In addition, BAEA will be a source of job creation in the Basque Country in the short term.
